VRA043 – 2016/wk48 – The Foals Adrift

Borussias woes continue in the League, a 1-2 defeat in the Derby with Cologne was followed by a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim, seeing the Foals adrift in the League on 13th position without a win in seven matches. However, the CL proved more successful, as Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw at Borussia-Park, which means Gladbach will finish third in the group, qualifying for the Europa League knock-out stages next year. Manuel talks you through the matches.

VRA041 – 2016/wk43 – A night to remember

The ups and downs continue with Borussia Mönchengladbach, a frustrating 0-0 draw against ten-men Hamburg, missing two (!) penalties, was followed by a fantastic away performance in the Champions League. André Schubert’s side silenced Celtic-Park with two second half goals – a night to remember for the Gladbach crowd in Glasgow. Back in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich proved too big for Borussia, leaving no doubt that their spell of four games without victory against the Foals would end this time. The 2-0 for Bayern was even flattering for an absent Borussia, leaving the club stalled on tenth position in the League. Manuel talks you through the week and previews the next four matches quickly, as Borussia now has another CL-match against Celtic, the second round in the German cup and two Bundesliga Friday night meets with Frankfurt and high-flying Hertha Berlin.

VRA040 – 2016/wk40 – A soft penalty

A fantastic atmosphere in Mönchengladbach, Borussia hosted Barcelona in the Champions League group matchday 2. The foals went 1-0 through a Hazard-goal, but Barca turned it around with two goals in the second half. A great effort from André Schuberts team nonetheless. Only a few days later, it was yet another weak performance away from Borussia-Park, when Gladbach helped Schalke to their first points of the season in a 4-0-thrashing. A soft penalty and two more goals conceded within six minutes decided the game, just when Gladbach had made efforts to score and aim for only the second away win in 14 games (with only four draws). Manuel talks you through both games.

VRA039 – 2016/wk39 – Big stage for Borussia

From Ingolstadt to Barcelona and back to Bundesliga – different flavours of football for the Foals these days. The squad of Manager André Schubert, whose contract has been extended until 2019 this week, mastered the difficult tasks against RB Leipizig (1:1) and Ingolstadt (2:0) well; now, they’re hosting none other than FC Barcelona at Borussia-Park. Truly a highlight for the club’s recent history, no matter the outcome. On Sunday, Schalke 04, with nil points after five Bundesliga matches, hosts Gladbach to matchday six in the League, before the League hits the break as another National squad weekend is scheduled.

VRA038 – 2016/wk38 – Ups and downs

Another week of ups and downs, much like we’ve seen a couple of times in 2016 – 1-3 defeat to Freiburg, followed by a 4-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen leaves the Foals on six points after three Bundesliga matches. Manuel talks you through the games as well as the first Champions League encounter of the season, which was an evening to forget (rather two nights, as the match had been cancelled on Tuesday evening) at Etihad Stadium, Borussia losing to Manchester City 4-0, with Kun Aguero scoring a hattrick for the team of manager Pep Guardiola. No time to dwell on the defeats though, as Borussia is facing RB Leipizig in a mid-week fixture, before hosting FC Ingolstadt at Borussia-Park.

VRA035 – 2016/wk23 – Rollercoaster Season

A rollercoaster-season came to a happy end with Gladbach securing 4th spot in the Bundesliga. The change from Lucien Favre to André Schubert,

VRA034 – 2016/wk20 – Knocking on CL’s door

Hooray, Champions League (well, play-offs!) it is! Two victories to finish the season convincingly, the 2-1 over third-placed Bayer Leverkusen effectively meant 4th spot for the Foals, who, as a reminder, had been rock bottom of the league after five matchdays. That fourth rank was further cemented with a 2-0 away win to Darmstadt, the first three points on the road in 2016! Manuel quickly goes through both matches, bids farewell to Roel Brouwers and Martin Stranzl, before discussing recent transfer rumors and squad news.
