093 Never mind the champions league - here's the youth team

Sorry we’re late, the internet connection kept breaking down. Your hosts Manuel and Alexis, of course, never break down.

Instead, we break down pre-season developments and bring you up to date on the transformation of the squad who are going to represent probably the greatest club in the world this season. With the departure of big names Stindl, Bensebaini, Thuram, Elvedi, and … Whatsisname (the one who does ads for beauty products and now plays for a multi-national pharmaceutical and chemicals company) and the arrival of players known only to insiders such as us, namely Honorat, Cvancara, Hack, and Ranos, one could be either fearful of what lies ahead or enthusiastic about a breath of fresh air and the potential of our youngest squad in years.

For the fourth time in five years, Borussia Mönchengladbach have started the season with a new coach, as we still struggle to cope in the aftermath of the rather painful and harrowing divorce from former sporting director Max Eberl, the man who built us up only to try to pull us down. Will Gerald Aseaone, who has an impressive track record, finally be the one who leads the team’s football in the right direction?

Find out all you need to know about the first two Bundesliga matches, the first one a (partly for the wrong reasons) breathtakingly entertaining away game in Augsburg, the second one a depressing humiliation by a group of players financed by and representing a multi-national pharmaceutical and chemicals company, a team that has never had enough supporters to fill its own 30 000 capacity stadium even though they’ve been playing in the Champions League every second year for decades.

In the run-up to the home match against Bayern Munich, we have chosen Igor de Camargo’s possibly wiliest goal as our Legendary Goal: the 1-0 against Bayern Munich in 2011 that sealed our first away win there for 15 years and kick-started one of our Legendary Seasons as well as our run of good results to this day against possibly the biggest show-offs and worst losers in the football business.

067 Same same, not different

Another 4 goals against Schachtar reinforce the lead in the CL group stage. However, Bundesliga performace needs to improve. Alexis and your host Manuel talk you through the recent games and give an outlook to the match against Schalke 04.

066 SchachtYEAH!

Six (as in … six!) goals in a Champions-League away match was quite unbelievable, however, it’s true. Manuel and Alexis talk you through that magical night and give an outlook to the next Bundesliga game in Leverkusen.

057 2018/wk46 - What a time to be a foal

Gladbach remains no.2 in German football after a convincing 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen, with top transfer Alassane Plea netting three goals at the Weser. Previously, Gladbach had beaten Mainz (4-0) and Duesseldorf (3-0) at home, and lost to Freiburg (1-3) and, on a dark night at Borussia-Park, 0-5 to Rhine rivals Bayer Leverkusen. Manuel talks you through these matches and gives a brief outlook on the next match vs. Hannover 96 after the international matches break.

055 2018/wk36 - More, PLEAse!

Good start to the 18/19 season for Gladbach with an emphatic 11-1 win in the Cup competition against Hastedt and an eventually convincing home victory on Matchday 1, 2-0 to highly rated Bayer Levekusen. The Foals then travelled to Augsburg where 23€M signing Allasane Plea bagged a goal to get the team a 1-1 draw. Manuel talks you through these games and takes a look at both the new signings and the new 4-3-3, and how the squad adapts to this new formation.

052 2017/wk44 - The Good - The Bad - The Ugly

Borussia on sixth position after matchday ten in the Bundesliga, last sixteen in the DFB cup. But it has been a continuation of the ups and downs we’ve seen at the beginning of the season – great win in Hoffenheim, biggest defeat at Borussia-Park history against Leverkusen (1-5). Manuel summarizes the six games and discusses the take home messages from these past couple of weeks.

045 2017/wk05 - Turn around?

The Bundesliga is back, with Borussia Mönchengladbach on the road to face Darmstadt and Leverkusen in their stadiums. A big task for the new manager Dieter Hecking, as the Foals have been very poor travellers in 2016. A rather slow-paced 0-0 draw to bottom side Darmstadt was followed by a thrilling 3-2 victory over Champions League side Bayer 04. Borussia had even been down 0-2 at half-time, but Lars Stindl (x2) and Raffael turned it around for Gladbach, who now start to look like the team we all admired in the past five seasons. Manuel is your host and talks you through the matches and the first weeks with Hecking in charge.

034 2016/wk20 - Knocking on CL's door

Hooray, Champions League (well, play-offs!) it is! Two victories to finish the season convincingly, the 2-1 over third-placed Bayer Leverkusen effectively meant 4th spot for the Foals, who, as a reminder, had been rock bottom of the league after five matchdays. That fourth rank was further cemented with a 2-0 away win to Darmstadt, the first three points on the road in 2016! Manuel quickly goes through both matches, bids farewell to Roel Brouwers and Martin Stranzl, before discussing recent transfer rumors and squad news.

033 2016/wk18 - Hahn in the limelight

Back from two disappointing away losses, Borussia beats Hoffenheim 3-1 and even gets a well-deserved “bonus” points at the Allianz-Arena, drawing to designated Champions Bayern Munich 1-1. Manuel talks you through the matches, gives a farewell to Rooooooel Brouwers before discussing further transfer rumors and the upcoming clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

021 2015/wk51 - Ups and downs

A week with lots of ups and downs: First, Gladbach defeated Bayern Munich in a true Bundesliga upset 3-1, the first loss for Bayern of the entire season, when a few days later a 2-1 lead to Manchester City was converted into a 2-4 loss within six minutes, as the Blues sealed Borussia’s exit from European football for the season. On the back of Champions-League elimination, Bayer Leverkusen then shocked André Schuberts side, beating the Foals 5-0 in what was in turn the fist defeat for Schubert as Gladbach coach in the Bundesliga.
